way back to Nanking, when he would know more of Cantonese
affairs and would be better able to discuss them with
me; but he changed his plans and went from Canton to Swatow with only a few hours' stay in this Colony, during which he did not find time to visit me again.
8. The anniversary of the Chakee incident of the
23rd June 1925, passed quietly by, the only incident being the appearance of a communist leaflet and
inscriptions written on walls here and there in Hong Kong
attacking indiscriminately the British and the Chinese
tionalist Governments.
9. In Kwangtung in spite of disturbed conditions
there appears to have been no general recrudescence of
piracy and the frontier of this Colony remains quiet. This is largely due to the organisation of village gurās
who are supplied with arms by the Canton Government and
are loosely organized under district headmen reporting to
an official in Canton.
10. The Chinese characters for the names in this
spatch are given on a separate sheet.
